Following a long tradition of receiving Saint John’s placement students, we shall be welcoming Haydon Spenceley to Saint Michael’s on Sunday, February 26th.
Originally from Northampton, Haydon, 27, is currently studying for ordination within the Church of England, having previously attained a BA in History from Nottingham University, an MA in Disability Studies from York University, and worked for two years as a full time Parish Assistant at Saint Giles, Northampton.
A keen musician (keyboards and vocals), Haydon has a major recording contract and has just released his latest album. He can often be found providing the music at various Christian conferences and training events.
We very much look forward to Haydon joining the team here at Saint Michael’s, and to benefiting from his many gifts and abilities throughout his time with us. He in turn, is looking forward to applying his academic studies within a local parish context through engaging in previously unexplored aspects of ministry, and through sharing in and learning from us, a broad range of skills and experiences that will stand him in good stead for his future ministry.
Do take the time to get to know Haydon, make him feel at home within our various groups and activities, and welcome him into your homes – particularly for lunch on a Sunday after church. As usual, there will be a list in the link for you to sign if you are able to provide such hospitality.
The next Marriage Preparation Course will start on Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 and run for seven weeks. Each session will commence with light refreshments at 7:30pm, and will normally end around 9:00pm.
The course will be held at Saint Helen’s Parish Church, Church Lane, Stapleford, NG9 8FN.

Commencing on Thursday, March 1st we shall be running a highly practical three week ‘Ministry of Welcome Course’.
Whilst of clear interest to members of the welcome team and sides-people, the course is specifically designed to fully equip and enable every Christian disciple to provide a warm and meaningful welcome to visitors and new members alike; not just at the door, but throughout their time with us.
Each session will commence with light refreshments at 7:30pm, and will normally end around 9:30pm, looking at issues such as:
• Welcome – an expression of who we are
• Welcome – creating a safe and friendly environment for a dangerous message
• Welcome – a bridge for seekers and those with specific needs
• Welcome – a means of creating effective pastoral care networks
• Practicalities – identifying visitors, enquirers and new members
• Practicalities – making the initial contact
• Practicalities – developing links between existing members and new attenders
• Practicalities – turning occasional visitors into active members
The course is completely FREE of charge, and is open to all.

On Saturday, March 3rd, (9:00am to 3:00pm) we shall be holding a ‘Parish Consultation Day’ to reflect upon a series of plans which have been drawn up by the PCC to ensure that we, as an expression of the Church in Bramcote, are ‘fit for purpose’ and building upon foundations which will assist us to reach out into the community well into the future.
Please do put this date in your diaries, and make it a priority, as some extremely significant and important matters will be presented and discussed on the day.
A buffet lunch will be served.
