Recent essential repair works to the church spire benefited greatly from this significant scheme.
The wording of the petition is as follows:
“We the undersigned urge the Chancellor to reconsider the extension of the standard rate of VAT (currently zero rated) to alternations to listed places of worship. This will have the effect of penalising the Church of England’s 12,500 listed cathedral and church buildings, almost entirely maintained by volunteers and voluntary giving, who are currently altering their buildings to make them suitable for use by the wider community. The extra cost this will impose will seriously threaten the continuation of such works. Extending the remit of the Listed Places of Worship Grants Scheme, with no additional funding, will go no way to mitigating this. It merely means a shrinking pot will be stretched even further.”
The next parish Adult Confirmation will take place at Southwell Minster on Saturday, June 9th, 2012 at 10:30am, and will be conducted by Bishop Tony.
If you would like to attend this event, please arrive in good time to ensure that you get a seat. Parking in Southwell can be challenging at weekends.

Saint Michael’s will be supporting this amazing ‘Beacon’ event to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. Do join us at the Scout Campsite for all fun and entertainment.

There will be a FoodBank box at the back of church for members of Saint Michael’s to donate items of food which will be delivered regularly to the Bestwood FoodBank.
This facility will be available for food to be dropped off both on Sundays and during the week for those taking part in mid-week activities.
